Mexican Blood Leg Tarantula
Aphonopelma bicoloratum
The Mexican blood leg tarantula is a terrestrial species from Mexico. Adult females have an orange carapace, black upper legs, orange knees and lower leg segments, black feet and a dark abdomen with reddish hairs. Mature males lose much of the orange and become darker. Captive-bred animals are kept by tarantula hobbyists. Provide a low, secure enclosure with a hide, diggable substrate and a water dish. Avoid handling, falls and irritating defensive hairs. Females lay eggs in a silk sac.
