Mexican Rose Gray Tarantula
Tliltocatl verdezi
The Mexican rose gray tarantula is native to Guerrero and southwestern Oaxaca, Mexico. Adult females have a brown carapace, often with a dark triangle, black legs and buff hairs on the rear legs and abdomen. This differs from the vivid red rump of Tliltocatl kahlenbergi.
Hobbyists keep this ground-dwelling species singly with a secure hide, diggable substrate, fresh water and little fall height. Avoid handling and its irritating defensive hairs. Females lay eggs in a silk sac. Formerly Brachypelma verdezi, it remains in CITES Appendix II.
