Mitchell's Reed Frog
Hyperolius mitchelli
Mitchell's reed frog occurs from southeastern Tanzania into Malawi and Mozambique and is kept by specialist amphibian hobbyists. Adults vary in color; some have broad pale stripes edged in black. Keepers provide planted, ventilated enclosures with slender perches, clean water and tiny supplemented insects. Moisture varies seasonally rather than staying constantly saturated. It lays eggs associated with breeding pools, and the larvae develop in water. Its small size does not remove the need for climbing room.
