Moroccan Painted Frog
Discoglossus scovazzi
This painted frog occurs in Morocco and nearby Ceuta and is maintained by specialist amphibian keepers. Adults vary from spotted brown to striped forms, with a pointed snout and relatively smooth skin. Enclosures need sheltered moist land, clean shallow water and suitable invertebrate prey, reflecting its use of wet places rather than a fully aquatic life. Females lay eggs in water, where tadpoles develop. It is distinct from Discoglossus pictus, despite similarities in coloring and older trade labels.
