Brazilian Red and White Tarantula
Nhandu chromatus
The Brazilian red and white tarantula contrasts a pale, bone-colored carapace with black upper legs, white lower-leg stripes and reddish abdominal hairs. This Brazilian ground-dweller is common in hobby collections. Its name returned from Vitalius chromatus to Nhandu chromatus in a 2026 revision. Use a secure, low enclosure with deep substrate, a hide and water, allowing space for a silk-lined retreat. It can kick irritating abdominal hairs, so avoid handling. Females lay eggs and guard them in a silk sac.
