Brazilian Black and White Tarantula
Nhandu coloratovillosus
The Brazilian black and white tarantula is a large terrestrial species from Brazil, including the Araguaia valley. Dark upper legs contrast with broad pale bands and clear lengthwise stripes on the lower legs; adult females are densely hairy and less sharply contrasted than males.
It is kept by tarantula hobbyists in secure, low enclosures with deep substrate, a refuge and water. Its dark carapace helps distinguish it from the pale-headed Nhandu chromatus. Avoid irritating abdominal hairs. Females lay eggs in silk sacs.
