Malaysian Earth Tiger Tarantula
Omothymus schioedtei
The Malaysian earth tiger is a large arboreal tarantula from Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia. Its long legs are brown to dark gray, the carapace is paler, and dark bands cross the abdomen. Despite the name, it needs climbing space and a sheltered vertical retreat. Formerly Cyriopagopus schioedtei, it also includes the older name O. thorelli. Experienced hobbyists provide a secure, ventilated enclosure, bark hides and water, and avoid handling. Females produce silk egg sacs.
