Oriental Cockroach
Blatta orientalis
The Oriental cockroach is a widespread dark cockroach maintained in laboratory and specialist colonies. Adult males have developed wings that leave part of the abdomen exposed, while females have only short wing pads. Colonies require secure, ventilated housing, shelters and access to moisture and varied food. Females deposit egg cases. This species can be a pest around buildings, drains and sewers, so escape prevention is especially important.
