Pacific Beetle Cockroach
Diploptera punctata
The Pacific beetle cockroach is a small brown species kept in research and specialist colonies. Its rounded, beetle-like appearance differs from many flatter roaches. It is unusual in having true live birth: the mother nourishes developing young internally, rather than simply retaining an egg case. Captive colonies use dry shelters, ventilation, varied food and access to moisture. All stages climb smooth surfaces, so a secure lid and finely screened vents are important.
