Pacific White-Sided Dolphin
Aethalodelphis obliquidens
This active North Pacific dolphin has a dark back, pale side streaks and a white belly. It travels in social groups and feeds on fish and squid. Specialist aquariums require purpose-built marine pools, water treatment and experienced veterinary teams. Females bear live calves. The current name Aethalodelphis replaces older Lagenorhynchus and Sagmatias combinations. CITES Appendix II applies, and the Marine Mammal Protection Act regulates US take and import.
