Painted Mantella
Mantella madagascariensis
The painted mantella lives in upland rainforest in east-central Madagascar. A green-yellow stripe over the snout and green limb-base patches contrast with a dark back and orange-patterned hind legs. Specialist keepers provide cool, humid terrariums with leaf cover, small insects and shallow clean water. It lays eggs that develop into aquatic tadpoles. Trade names can confuse it with Baron's mantella; its identity should also be distinguished from the brown-limbed beautiful mantella.
