Guarani Giant Tarantula
Grammostola grossa
The Guarani giant tarantula is a terrestrial species recorded from Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina. Adults have dark bodies, grayish head hairs and long tawny hairs around the abdomen. It also appears in older hobby listings as the Pampas tawny red tarantula. Keepers should retain breeder records with the scientific name rather than infer identity from a regional label.
Provide secure, ventilated ground-level housing with substrate, a sheltered retreat and drinking water. Offer appropriately sized insects and avoid handling this heavy spider. Females lay eggs in a silk sac.
