Cape Thick Tail Scorpion
Parabuthus capensis
The Cape thick tail scorpion occurs in South Africa's Western and Northern Cape. Many adults are yellow-orange with darker rear tail segments, although black populations also occur. It shelters beneath rocks and logs in dry country. Specialist keepers provide an escape-proof enclosure with a hide, dry diggable substrate and water. Its sting causes intense pain and medical assessment is advised; do not handle it. Color alone cannot distinguish it from other yellow Parabuthus. Females give birth to live young.
