Schlechter's Thick Tail Scorpion
Parabuthus schlechteri
Schlechter's thick tail scorpion is a dark southern African species, often with contrasting pale legs and arms. It occurs in southern Namibia and South Africa, including Karoo and Richtersveld habitats, and digs in consolidated sandy or gritty ground. It is kept by specialist hobbyists in an escape-proof enclosure with deep diggable substrate, a retreat and water. The tail is less densely hairy than that of P. villosus. Its sting is painful and may need hospital treatment. Never handle it. Females bear live young.
