Hairy Thick Tail Scorpion
Parabuthus villosus
The hairy thick tail scorpion is a large species from Namibia and South Africa. Its dark body and tail carry conspicuous hairs; some populations have pale legs. It uses rocky, dry habitats and may hunt during daylight, unlike many scorpions. Specialist keepers provide a secure enclosure with deep diggable substrate, a stable shelter and water. Dense tail hairs help distinguish it from other Parabuthus. Its painful sting should receive medical assessment, and it must never be handled. Females bear live young.
