Parker's Mantella
Mantella pulchra
Often called the beautiful mantella in the US hobby, this frog lives in Madagascar's eastern rainforest. Its dark head and back, tan-brown limbs and green patches at the limb bases distinguish it from the orange-legged painted mantella. Specialist keepers provide cool, humid terrariums with abundant leaf cover, tiny insects and shallow clean water. It lays eggs and has aquatic tadpoles. Frogs sold as painted mantellas need careful identification because several species share that trade label.
