Peacock Mantis
Pseudempusa pinnapavonis
The peacock mantis is a brown, long-bodied mantis from mainland Southeast Asia. An adult female has a very narrow, elongated thorax, spiny grasping forelegs and russet forewings with small pale marks near their bases. When threatened it spreads its wings to expose striking peacock-like hindwing markings.
Specialist keepers provide live insect prey, strong ventilation, climbing twigs and enough clear height for molting. Keep individuals separately and supervise introductions. Females lay egg cases attached to a suitable surface.
