Persian Fallow Deer
Dama mesopotamica
The Persian fallow deer is a spotted woodland deer with thick, branching antlers that are less broadly flattened than those of European fallow deer. Conservation zoos maintain breeding groups with fenced outdoor space, shelter and cover for calves. Females bear live young. Dama mesopotamica is a separate species from the European fallow deer, rather than a captive color variety. ESA endangered status and CITES Appendix I restrictions apply.
