Purple Peru Pink Toe Tarantula
Avicularia juruensis
The purple Peru pink toe tarantula is an arboreal species from western Amazonia, including Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil. Adults vary: one form is golden, while the form formerly called Avicularia urticans has strong purple sheen, grizzled leg hairs and yellowish joint rings. Females have brown to reddish abdominal hairs. Hobbyists keep it singly with upright bark, space for a silk retreat, fresh water and good ventilation. Avoid handling and contact with defensive hairs. Females lay eggs in a silk sac.
