Bario Bat Eater Tarantula
Phormingochilus pennellhewlettorum
The Bario bat eater is a large tree-dwelling tarantula from the Kelabit Highlands of Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo. Adults sold in the hobby show dark brown to bronze tones with darker legs and abdominal markings. Its trade name is not a reason to feed vertebrates. Specialist hobbyists use secure, ventilated vertical enclosures with bark retreats, water and appropriately sized insect prey. Avoid handling this fast species. Females produce silk egg sacs. Older labels may spell its name P. pennellhewletti.
