Czech Improved White
The Czech Improved White is a Czech domestic pig breed connected with the country's Large White-type breeding and improvement programs. It was developed from local white pigs and imported white commercial stock, then selected for growth, carcass quality, fertility, and suitability to Central European farm conditions. Animals are typically white, medium to large, and long-bodied, with the clean build expected of a modern meat pig. In English sources the name may appear alongside Czech Large White or related Czech white maternal lines.
On farms it is used mainly as a sow line or general-purpose white breed for producing crossbred market pigs. The best breeding animals come from herds that record litter performance, growth, and soundness, since the name alone says little about current genetic merit. Outdoor keepers need to remember that white pigs burn in strong sun and require shade or wallows. In more intensive systems, consistent rations, clean farrowing accommodation, and attention to feet and legs are important for keeping larger sows productive over several parities.
