Kemerovo
The Kemerovo pig is a Russian regional breed associated with western Siberia, where farms needed pigs that could handle a short growing season, cold weather, and mixed feed resources. It is generally described as a meat and lard type developed from local pigs with influence from improved European breeds, producing a sturdy body, useful growth, and enough condition to suit harsher farm conditions. Black, belted, pied, and lighter color descriptions may appear in records, so the name is more important than coat color when identifying the line.
In practice, Kemerovo pigs are most relevant to regional breeding programs, conservation herds, and farms that value hardiness over maximum lean gain. They need the same secure fencing, dry bedding, mineral access, and controlled rations as other domestic pigs, but managers also watch body condition closely in cold climates where feed demand rises. Buyers outside Russia should treat the name cautiously, because availability, registry recognition, and purity of breeding stock may vary.
