Large White
The Large White is a British-origin pig breed that became one of the foundation animals of modern pork production. It is a large, white-skinned pig with erect ears, a long body, and strong selection history for growth, litter performance, and carcass traits. In many countries it overlaps closely with the Yorkshire name, though registry usage and national breeding lines can differ. Its plain white appearance hides a major influence on commercial maternal and crossbred herds.
Large White pigs are most often managed in production settings, but small farms may also keep them when they want predictable growth and access to established genetics. They need sun protection, clean housing, good ventilation, and diets that support rapid development without creating leg or breeding problems. Breeders should select for soundness and mothering as well as size, since the breed's usefulness depends on reliable performance across many generations.
