Latvian White
The Latvian White is a Baltic pig breed developed from local Latvian pigs and improved white European stock, especially for bacon and pork production. It is generally a white, medium to large pig with the practical body type expected of northern European production breeds. The breed reflects selection for local farm conditions, where adaptation, mothering, and usable carcass quality mattered alongside the visual uniformity of a white commercial pig.
Latvian White pigs are mainly relevant to regional producers, breed conservation work, and herds interested in Baltic genetics. They should be managed like other full-sized white pigs, with shade, dry housing, clean farrowing areas, and balanced feed rather than reliance on scraps or rough forage. Breeders should confirm the herd's documentation and selection goals, since white pig populations can look similar while differing in origin, performance, and conservation value.
