Leicoma
The Leicoma is a German pig breed developed in the former East German breeding system as a practical meat-production animal. Its name is associated with regional breeding centers, and the line drew on established European commercial genetics rather than on an isolated village landrace. Leicoma pigs are usually described as white, productive, and selected for growth and carcass traits, making them more of a specialized farm breed than a visually dramatic heritage pig.
A herd using Leicoma genetics should be evaluated through performance, soundness, and source records rather than appearance alone. These pigs need normal commercial-pig management: secure housing, careful nutrition, health planning, and farrowing or finishing systems suited to large animals. Outside central Europe, availability may be limited, so buyers should treat the name as a genetic and breeding-history claim that needs documentation from the seller.
