Lithuanian White
The Lithuanian White is a Lithuanian pig breed developed from local stock with influence from Large White and other improved white pigs. It is a medium to large white breed shaped for pork and bacon production, with more standardized appearance and performance than the Lithuanian Native. The breed reflects the twentieth-century push to create national production animals that could work in local conditions while meeting commercial expectations for growth, fertility, and carcass quality.
Lithuanian White pigs are managed much like other white production breeds. They need shade to protect pale skin, clean farrowing facilities, sound floors, and feed matched to breeding or finishing goals. For farms or conservation programs, the useful questions are herd source, selection history, and whether the animals represent a maintained Lithuanian line or a general white cross. Clear records help keep the breed identity meaningful.
