Livenskay
The Livenskay, also encountered as Livenskaya, is a Russian regional pig breed associated with the Livny area and surrounding parts of western Russia. It has been described as a meat and lard type, often with black-and-white or spotted coloring, developed from local pigs and improved breeds to suit mixed farm conditions. The breed's value lies less in a single dramatic feature than in regional adaptation, practical size, and historical use in farms that wanted both pork and fat.
Livenskay pigs are most relevant to regional breeding, small-farm production, and conservation of Russian livestock diversity. They need sturdy housing, dry bedding, reliable winter feed, and handling systems sized for mature pigs. Because translated names and spellings vary, breeders and buyers should confirm the source herd and any official recognition behind the animals. Coat pattern alone should not be treated as proof of Livenskay ancestry.
