Majorcan Black
The Majorcan Black, or Porc Negre Mallorquí, is the native black pig of Mallorca in Spain's Balearic Islands. It is a dark-coated Mediterranean pig associated with traditional outdoor management and local pork products, especially the island's cured and seasoned foods. The breed tends to be understood through its place, production culture, and ability to use local feed resources rather than through the uniform look of an industrial white pig.
Management of Majorcan Black pigs often connects pasture, orchard, or range access with finishing systems that support regional food quality. Animals still need shade, water, fencing, and controlled feed, especially in dry island conditions where forage changes by season. Breeders should pay close attention to authentic local stock and product rules where they apply, because the breed's value is tied to geography, husbandry, and cultural continuity as much as to coat color.
