Moravka
The Moravka is a Serbian native pig associated with the Morava region and traditional Balkan farming. It is generally described as a dark or black pig, sometimes with pale markings or a belt depending on the line, and it belongs to the group of rustic local pigs kept for pork and fat under semi-extensive conditions. The breed's significance is regional adaptation and survival in small populations rather than broad commercial standardization.
Moravka pigs may interest conservation farms, outdoor pork producers, and researchers working with southeastern European livestock diversity. They need secure fencing, shade, winter bedding, and feed that supports growth when pasture or mast is limited. Breeders should document family lines and avoid confusing Moravka with other black Balkan pigs or simple color crosses. In a small population, soundness and fertility are just as important as preserving the traditional look.
