Murom
The Murom is a Russian pig breed associated with the Murom area in the Vladimir region. It was developed from local pigs with improved white-breed influence, producing a practical meat and lard animal for regional farm systems. Murom pigs are generally described as light-colored or white, sturdy, and adapted to conditions where winter feeding, moderate growth, and reliable reproduction mattered as much as maximum lean gain.
Murom pigs are most relevant to Russian regional livestock work, conservation, and farms interested in locally adapted production genetics. They should be managed with dry winter housing, secure pens, balanced feed, and attention to farrowing performance. Because several Russian breeds share white coloring and similar development histories, buyers should confirm documentation and source herd before relying on the name. Performance and adaptation are better identifiers than appearance alone.
