Myrhorod
The Myrhorod is a Ukrainian pig breed associated with the Poltava region and the town of Myrhorod. It is commonly described as a black-and-white spotted meat and lard pig, developed from local Ukrainian pigs with influence from improved breeds. The breed was shaped for farm practicality, including hardiness, usable fat production, and adaptation to regional feeding and climate rather than the narrow lean profile of modern commercial lines.
Myrhorod pigs may be kept in regional breeding programs, heritage herds, or farms that value traditional pork traits. They need secure fencing, shelter from wet and cold weather, and feeding that keeps breeding animals in sound condition without excessive fat. Conservation work should keep ancestry clear, because spotted color appears in many crosses. Where the breed is rare or disrupted by local conditions, maintaining viable family lines can matter as much as selecting showy markings.
