Neijiang
The Neijiang is a Chinese native pig from Sichuan, named for the Neijiang area. It is a black pig, often described with a broad body, heavy head, and wrinkled face, and it belongs to the group of local Chinese breeds valued for adaptation, fatness, and reproductive traits. Neijiang pigs are not built like lean terminal sire lines; they represent a regional farm animal shaped by local feed, climate, and culinary preferences.
Management of Neijiang pigs should account for slower growth, body condition, and the need to keep skin folds and bedding clean. Farms or research herds may use the breed for conservation, specialty pork, or study of native Chinese genetics. Buyers should ask for source documentation and avoid judging the animal only by black color or facial wrinkles, since several Chinese breeds share similar traits. Careful records help protect the line if crossbreeding is also used.
