Ningxiang
The Ningxiang is a Chinese native pig from Hunan province, long associated with regional pork production and local food culture. It is commonly described as a medium-sized pig with black-and-white or dark-patterned coloring, good fat deposition, and meat qualities valued in traditional markets. Like many Chinese local breeds, it grows more slowly than modern commercial pigs but preserves traits connected with adaptation, flavor-oriented production, and smallholder management.
Ningxiang pigs are usually managed for specialty production, conservation, or breeding programs rather than fast industrial finishing. They need clean housing, shade, balanced feed, and careful control of body condition, especially when fat quality is part of the production goal. Anyone buying or maintaining the breed should keep source records clear, because regional Chinese pig names can be confused once animals are crossed or moved away from their original breeding area.
