Norwegian Yorkshire
The Norwegian Yorkshire is Norway's version or breeding population of the Large White and Yorkshire pig family. It is a white commercial breed selected for growth, carcass quality, and use in structured crossbreeding systems. Compared with older outdoor heritage pigs, the Norwegian Yorkshire is best understood as a performance-recorded production animal with a clear role in modern pork genetics.
Herds using Norwegian Yorkshire pigs should manage them for efficiency without ignoring robustness. Good footing, ventilation, farrowing supervision, and nutrition matched to stage of growth are essential. Breeding programs often use Yorkshire-type animals as maternal or terminal components depending on the system, so buyers should ask about index selection, litter traits, and carcass goals. On small farms, they may perform well, but they need more deliberate feed and housing than very rustic native pigs.
