Semirechensk
The Semirechensk pig is a Central Asian regional breed associated with Semirechye, the historic Seven Rivers area of Kazakhstan and neighboring regions. It is usually described as a hardy meat-and-lard type developed for continental conditions, using local adaptation and improved pig genetics. The breed is not common internationally, so details may vary by source and breeding station.
Semirechensk pigs are most relevant where dry climate, seasonal temperature swings, and practical farm production shape pig management. They need shelter from both heat and severe cold, plus enough feed energy to maintain condition through harsh periods. Breeders should select for fertility, strong constitution, growth, and the traits documented in their source herd. Outside its home region, the name should be used carefully and supported by provenance rather than by appearance alone.
