Swabian-Hall
The Swabian-Hall pig is a German heritage breed from the Schwäbisch Hall region of Baden-Württemberg. It has a black head and rear with a pale belt or middle section, a pattern that gives the breed a strong visual identity. Historically valued on farms in southern Germany, it has regained attention through regional pork production and breed conservation.
Swabian-Hall pigs suit outdoor or semi-outdoor systems when given shade, wallows, secure fencing, and dry sleeping space. Producers often value the breed for meat quality and regional branding, but good husbandry still determines results. Breeders should maintain the characteristic markings, sturdy frame, fertility, and calm temperament. Because the breed has protected cultural importance in its home area, source and herd identity are important when buying breeding animals outside Germany.
