Ukrainian White Steppe
The Ukrainian White Steppe is a Ukrainian pig breed developed in the southern steppe zone, often associated with work to create a productive white pig suited to dry and variable conditions. It is a large white meat-and-lard or meat breed depending on line and era, valued for adaptation to heat, open country, and regional production systems. Its identity is more climatic and functional than decorative.
Ukrainian White Steppe pigs should be managed with attention to sun, water, and seasonal extremes. Pale skin needs shade, while farrowing sows need clean, protected spaces and good feed to raise litters well. Breeders should select for growth, fertility, hardiness, and sound bodies rather than simply maintaining a white coat. Outside Ukraine, source documentation is important because many white pig breeds can look similar without sharing the same steppe background.
