Welsh

The Welsh pig is a British white pig breed from Wales, traditionally valued for bacon production, hardiness, and suitability to outdoor and semi-outdoor farming. It is a large, long-bodied pig with lop ears and a practical commercial history. Although less common than some global white breeds, it has remained important in Welsh and British pig breeding through both purebred and crossbred use.

Welsh pigs need space, sound fencing, good bedding, and feed that supports frame and litter performance. Sows are valued for maternal ability, so breeding programs should pay close attention to teat number, farrowing ease, piglet growth, and longevity. Because Welsh pigs can resemble other white lop-eared breeds, registered or well-documented stock matters. Small farms may appreciate their outdoor ability, but they should still manage sun exposure, mud, and winter wet carefully.
