Yanan
The Yanan pig is a Chinese regional pig associated with Yan'an in Shaanxi. It is best understood as a local breed or population shaped by the Loess Plateau environment, household farming, and regional pork needs. Public descriptions are less familiar than those for major international breeds, so color, size, and performance should be confirmed from the specific source herd.
Yanan pigs may be useful in conservation and local production programs where adaptation to dry upland conditions matters. They need weather protection, clean pens, adequate feed, and management that supports reproduction without pushing them like highly specialized commercial hybrids. Breeders should document origin, litter traits, growth, and constitution. Outside China, the name should be used only when provenance is strong enough to separate true Yanan stock from ordinary local crosses.
