American Giant Homer
The American Giant Homer is a large utility and exhibition pigeon developed from homer-type ancestry. It is bred for size, body depth, and squab-production qualities rather than for the speed of racing homers. The breed keeps the strong, purposeful look of the homer family while emphasizing mass, width, and a calm temperament useful in breeding pens.
American Giant Homers need roomy nest boxes, solid perches, and feed that supports large breeding birds without making them sluggish. Breeders should select for body size, fertility, parenting ability, breast width, and sound feet and legs. Because very large pigeons can become clumsy or poor breeders if pushed too far, vigor matters as much as weight. Buyers should distinguish Giant Homers from ordinary racing homers or runts.
