American Giant Runt
The American Giant Runt is a very large pigeon breed descended from the old runt and utility pigeon tradition. It is bred for impressive size, broad body, and squab or exhibition qualities. Compared with racing or tumbler pigeons, it is a heavy, calm bird whose value is in mass, structure, and reliable breeding rather than aerial performance.
Giant Runts need loft equipment scaled to their size, including roomy nest boxes, sturdy perches, and floors that stay dry and clean. Breeders should select for body width, healthy legs, fertility, and parents that can rear large squabs well. Birds that are huge but weak or clumsy should not be favored. Because runt-type pigeons can vary widely, buyers should look at mature birds and breeding results before judging a loft.
