American Roller
The American Roller is a roller pigeon breed selected for aerial rolling performance. Like other roller breeds, it is judged by the quality, frequency, depth, and control of backward rolls while flying. American lofts may maintain different families with different performance styles, but the central trait is athletic aerial behavior rather than ornamental structure alone.
Roller pigeons require careful training and ethical selection. Birds need a secure home loft, consistent feeding, and safe flying times that reduce predator pressure. Breeders should favor pigeons that roll with control and recover cleanly, not birds that roll too deep, crash, or cannot return home. Records of pairings and performance help maintain a useful family. Good care also includes rest periods, clean water, and protection from overcrowding in the kit box.
