Ancient Tumbler
Ancient Tumbler is a broad historic pigeon label for old tumbler-type birds selected for aerial somersaulting or rolling. It may refer to a traditional breed, a group of early tumbler forms, or a standard name used in particular fancy-pigeon lists. The key idea is an old-fashioned compact pigeon connected with the origins of later tumbler breeds.
Because the name can be general, keepers should clarify which Ancient Tumbler standard or family they are working with. Management depends on whether the birds are flown or shown. Flying lines need safe training, kit discipline, and selection against dangerous uncontrolled rolling. Exhibition lines need clean lofts, careful pairing, and attention to body type, head, feather, and vigor. A bird should not be labeled Ancient Tumbler simply because it happens to roll.
