Bavarian Cropper
The Bavarian cropper is a German cropper or pouter pigeon from Bavaria, bred from the domestic rock pigeon for its inflated crop, upright carriage, and balanced outline. Cropper breeds are judged on how the bird carries and fills the globe in relation to the body, rather than on homing ability. Bavarian birds are generally kept as fancy pigeons, with accepted colors and markings varying by the standard followed.
Successful keeping depends on giving the birds enough space to display without damaging feathers or being bullied. A practical breeder selects for a crop that inflates freely but does not interfere with feeding, courtship, or rearing young. Nest boxes should be stable and easy to clean, since enthusiastic croppers can be active around mates and squabs. Exhibition preparation is usually straightforward compared with heavily feathered breeds, but condition, feather quality, and body balance make a large difference in the show pen.
