Beak-Crested Jacobin
The beak-crested Jacobin is a fancy pigeon related to the Jacobin group, whose signature feature is the feather hood, mane, and chain surrounding the head and neck. In the beak-crested form, extra attention is given to the front crest near the beak, creating a more enclosed head furnishing than in plainer-headed breeds. It remains a domestic pigeon, Columba livia, but it is bred almost entirely for exhibition type and feather structure.
Care is similar to that for other Jacobins, with added attention to visibility, feather cleanliness, and safe pen design. The hood can limit the bird's field of view, so calm handling and uncluttered lofts help prevent panic injuries. Breeders pair for a full, even feather arrangement while avoiding weak vigor or birds that cannot feed and rear squabs properly. Bathing water, dry floors, and protection from mud are useful, because stained or broken hood feathers quickly reduce show quality.
