Belgian Tumbler
The Belgian tumbler is a domestic pigeon breed from Belgium, descended from the rock pigeon, Columba livia, and grouped with the European tumblers that were historically valued for agile flight and rolling. In modern lofts it is more often an exhibition and hobby breed than a strict performance pigeon. Fanciers select for a neat, lively body, balanced head and beak, and clean color in the usual pigeon pigment families, from blue and black to ash red, dilute, almond, grizzle, bar, checker, and barless patterns.
Belgian tumblers do well in the same well-ventilated, dry lofts used for other small to medium fancy pigeons, with regular bathing water, grit, and nest space for settled pairs. Breeders comparing show birds look for symmetry, condition, eye expression, and faults that disturb the outline. Lines kept for flying need separate attention to fitness and kit training, since birds selected only for bench type may gradually lose the tumbling behavior behind the name.
