Bergen Tumbler
Named for Bergen, the Norwegian port city, the Bergen tumbler is a regional domestic pigeon from the Nordic tumbler tradition. Like other fancy pigeons it descends from the rock pigeon, but its identity comes from local selection for a small to medium active bird with recognizable tumbler type. Older lines were associated with lively flight, while present-day birds may be kept mainly for exhibition, color, and preservation of the Bergen name.
Lofts for Bergen tumblers need to suit a cool, damp climate as much as a show schedule: good airflow, dry floors, and protection from drafts are more important than elaborate equipment. If birds are flown, light conditioning and secure settling help maintain the active character without risking losses. Outside Norway and specialist circles the breed can be hard to find, so careful records and exchanges among unrelated breeders matter for long-term continuity.
