Berlin Long-Faced Tumbler
Among the Berlin tumbler family, the Berlin long-faced tumbler is the variety with the most elongated head and beak. It was developed in and around Berlin from domestic tumbler pigeons, a group once tied to rolling and agile flight but now often kept as fancy and exhibition birds. Compared with the short-faced Berlin forms, the long-faced bird has a more serviceable beak and a less compressed skull, while still being judged for the alert station and tidy outline expected of German tumblers.
These pigeons are generally straightforward to manage in a clean, dry loft with room for exercise and regular bathing. Breeders focus on preserving length and refinement without letting the head become coarse or the body lose balance. Because flight performance varies greatly by line, a buyer should ask whether the family has been shown, flown, or kept only for color. Long-faced birds can be useful in breeding programs where vigor and feeding ability are priorities.
