Berlin Muffed Tumbler
Muffs are the defining feature of the Berlin muffed tumbler, a German fancy pigeon developed from Berlin tumbler stock with ornamental feathering on the feet. The breed combines the compact, alert impression of a tumbler with the extra visual weight of foot feather, sometimes called slippers or muffs. It remains a domestic pigeon breed, not a wild form, and its exhibition value depends on both body type and the condition and symmetry of the feathered legs.
Management has to protect those muffs. Damp litter, narrow perches, and dirty nest bowls can break or stain the feathers, so loft floors are usually kept dry and uncluttered, with regular bathing before shows. Breeding pairs also need enough freedom of movement to mate and feed squabs without the foot feather getting in the way. Anyone buying Berlin muffed tumblers should look beyond feather length and check vigor, fertility, and whether the birds raise their own young reliably.
