Berlin Short Face
Berlin short face is the common English name for a German short-beaked fancy pigeon from Berlin, often listed with or as the Berlin short-faced tumbler. It is a highly stylized descendant of domestic tumbler pigeons, recognized for a very short beak, rounded head, compact body, and sharp show presence. Traditional exhibition colors include black, white, red, yellow, and blue bar, though the exact list depends on the standard being followed.
Care is more specialized than for ordinary farm pigeons because extreme short-faced birds may not feed squabs as efficiently as longer-beaked breeds. Many fanciers use careful mate selection, attentive checking of youngsters, or foster pairs when necessary. Small grains and accessible feeders help adults eat comfortably, while close loft hygiene protects the eyes and beak area. The best breeding programs avoid selecting for a tiny face alone and keep fertility, hatchability, and sound movement in the family.
